Types of Implant-Supported Fixed Bridges for Full Mouth Restoration

The flexibility of implant treatment has grown substantially in recent years. If you are in need of a full mouth restoration, Palani Center for Dental Implants offers several treatment alternatives that are vastly superior to traditional dentures. Determining which option is ideal for your case depends on a variety of factors, some of which include:
•  The quality and quantity of your bone
•  Your overall oral health
•  Your personal preferences
•  Your financial circumstances
•  The amount of vertical space available for the prosthesis

Regardless of which option is ideal, the type of implant-supported fixed bridge you end up with will restore the function and aesthetics of your smile. Patients who have to undergo implant treatment will see improvements in their health, happiness, and overall quality of life!

During a consultation visit, Giri Palani, DDS, FICOI will discuss the various treatment options, costs, and desired effects. The following bridges are our most popular options.

Implant-Supported Acrylic Teeth Over a Titanium Framework

Also known as a permanent hybrid fixed bridge, this option is typically a removable prosthesis that attaches in some manner to the dental implants. Most permanent hybrid fixed bridges consist of 4 or more dental implants and a metal bar, or “ball and socket” system, to support the prosthesis. The titanium framework can be hidden under the acrylic upon request. This option is often used for people with high upper smile lines that hide the edge where the denture meets the gum tissue. It is also a beneficial option for patients in need of lip support or with the extreme bone loss.

When compared to traditional dentures, permanent hybrid fixed bridges are less expensive to repair if something goes wrong and have more stability. The appliance is removable so, it must be taken out at night to clean. In many ways, this can be an advantage. You will be able to easily and effectively clean between the restoration and your gum tissue.

Implant-Supported Zirconia Teeth

Implant-supported Zirconia teeth, or a permanently fixed bridge, is the strongest, most esthetically-pleasing option for restoration. Patients no longer have to sacrifice top-tier beauty, precision, and price to receive a zirconia restoration. We can layer the porcelain for a more esthetic, natural look. Because it is one piece, there is no chance for tooth de-bonding.

A Zirconia fixed bridge can be supported by as little as four implants, and as many as eight. A bridge supported by more than four implants can survive without all the implants being successful. Giri Palani, DDS, FICOI is one of the few implant specialists to offer zirconia bridges.

All-Acrylic Teeth

An all-acrylic bridge is another excellent option for patients in need of a full mouth restoration. Acrylic is easy to repair, cost-effective, and softer than other alternatives. There is a natural “give” to the bite, making acrylic an ideal option for patients that tend to grind their teeth. Ceramic options are more likely to chip if you grind your teeth. In some cases, we may use acrylic teeth as a temporary hybrid bridge, while we wait for the implants to heal fully.
