Galileos Cone Beam Technology
At Palani Center for Dental Implants, we use the latest implant technology to make the process as smooth, comfortable, and effective as possible. During your complimentary consultation, we use Galileos cone beam technology to perform a CT examination and determine if you are a suitable candidate for implant treatment.
Why We Use GalileosDental cone beam computed tomography, or CBCT is a special type of x-ray machine that generates three-dimensional images of dental structures, soft tissues, nerve paths, and craniofacial bone. In other words, CBCT images allow us to see everything. With the Galileos, Giri Palani, DDS, FICOI can diagnose your need for implant treatment, create a surgical guide for precise placement, and continue with the CEREC machine to design and fabricate your restoration. Not only that, but the 3-D image is projected onto a screen for both you and Giri Palani, DDS, FICOI to see. This allows you to visualize the various treatment plans and offers we provide. It also allows us to provide greater detail on the surgical procedure, and the appearance of your restoration.
Cone Beam ProcedureA cone beam procedure requires no special preparation. During your consultation, Giri Palani, DDS, FICOI will instruct you to remove any metal objects from your person, as well as existing dental appliances. We recommend wearing comfortable and loose-fitting clothing to your exam. If there is any possibility that you are pregnant, please informGiri Palani, DDS, FICOI before the procedure.
During the scan, our Galileos machine will rotate a full 360 degrees around your head, capturing hundreds of 2-D images. This data is then transferred to the Galileos imaging software, which combines the images to create a single 3-D scan. The scanner typically takes between 20 to 40 seconds to revolve completely around your head. You will not experience any pain or discomfort during the exam and can return to your normal activities immediately after the consultation.
Once we have a 3-D image, we can use to start treatment planning. The scan will let us know if you have any bone deterioration or other complications beneath the surface.
